Airbus S.A.S is an aircraft manufacturing company based at Toulouse in France. Airbus operates significantly in other European countries and produces half of the jet airplanes in the world with the rest being supplied by Boeing. Starting as Airbus Industries in the tear 1970, the name was changed to Airbus in the year 2001 when the company was incorporated under French law. The company is held jointly by EADS and BAE. The company began as a syndicate of European aviation firms in order to vie with American companies manufacturing similar aircrafts. Airbus airplanes were launched for the first time in the year 1972 with the Airbus A300, an aircraft with twin-aisle and twin-engine. The aircraft had a total capacity of 254 seats.
A shorter variant of A300 was launched in the year 1982 with the name A310. The Airbus airplane represented a modified version of A300 with twin-aisle and twin-engines. The airplane had a total capacity of 187 seats. Airbus A320 was launched in the year 1984 that was characterized by the innovative fly-by-wire control system. A320 is considered to be a great commercial success. The Airbus airplane had a total capacity of 150 seats. Two shorter versions of A320 called A318 and A319 were launched in the years 1999 and 1993 respectively.

The longer range Airbus airplanes, the twin-jet A330 and A340, a four-engine aircraft with efficient wings were launched in the year 1987. A variant of A340, A340-500 has an operating range of 16700 km. This Airbus airplane ranks second among the longest range of commercial jets after the Boeing 777-200LR. Another Airbus airplane A380 was launched in the year 2002 that has 4 engines, double deck and quad aisle and has a maximum capacity of 555 seats. While Airbus airplane A350 was launched in the year 2006 that had a maximum capacity of 350 seats.
