Covering a total land area of eight thousand two hundred forty-four acres, Tucson International Airport, with the IATA code designation of TUS, is located at a distance of about six miles from the city of Tucson in the US state of Arizona. With three runways, whose surface is made of Asphalt, it operates completely as a public airport. Tucson International Airport is owned completely by a non-profit corporation named Tucson Airport Authority which is solely responsible for the management, development and maintenance of the airport services and flights and the infrastructure of the airport as a whole.
The history of Tucson International Airport dates back many years to 1919, when it operated as a municipal owned airport but it was only in the year 1928 that the airport took a stance of commercial airport providing commercial air service. From that time till today, Tucson International Airport is not a hub of any passenger airline but operates as a hub of the cargo airline company Evergreen International.
The major traffic from the airport, which consists of 80 non-stop departures daily, is primarily contributed by the Southwest Airlines, American Airlines and US Airways.
Tucson International Airport houses two major terminals which are namely International Terminal and Domestic Terminal also known as Main Terminal. This main terminal has eight baggage claims.
International Terminal - This terminal has total of eight gates and primarily operates as the arrival point of Aerolitoral flights from Mexico and has U.S. Customs, Immigration and Naturalization.
Main Terminal - This terminal is further divided in to West Concourse and East Concourse. West Concourse with eleven gates serves as the departure point of Aerolitoral flights to Mexico and arrival as well as departure points for many other airlines operating domestic flights. East Concourse with nine gates is where American Airlines, ExpressJet Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Sun Country Airlines operate.
The airport also has a Cargo Terminal which serves as the operating point for the cargo airlines DHL, Federal Express (FedEx) and United Parcel Service. Apart from this the Tucson International Airport also receives the services of some of the largest car rental companies. The premises has also has numerous coffee bars, lounges and eating joints, and houses the famous retail shop of The Paradies Shops, the stores of The Desert House and PGA Tour Shop where you can purchase gifts and apparel.
