Gambia International Airlines Ltd. is Gambia's national airline carrier that is based in Banjul. Gambia International Airlines Ltd. operates mainly on regional passenger services all over West Africa. Several airports in West Africa are served by the Gambia International Airlines. This airline was founded in the year 1996 and started its operation from that very year itself. Previously, the Gambia International Airlines Ltd. was a ground handling organization that was situated in Banjul International Airport. Gradually over time, it expanded and very soon the flight operations started. The Gambia Government owns the Gambia International Airlines. Previously, this airline was not a passenger flight carrier; rather it used to carry cargos. But with time, it became one of the most popular airlines in the domestic as well as international field. The prime hub of Gambia International Airlines is Banjul International Airport. On December 1, 2000, the first flight of Gambia International Airlines took off with the co-operation of Air Namibia.
