Airkenya Aviation was established in the year 1985 by the merging Sunbird Aviation and Air Kenya, both having experience of more than 20 years in the field of general aviation in East Africa. The Airkenya Aviation is a privately owned aviation company. The prime administration of flight operations and engineering base of Airkenya Aviation is at Wilson Airport about 4 km from the center of Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya. The operation of Airkenya Aviation comprises a network of scheduled services within Kenya and different charter flights servicing throughout the entire region. In the year 1996, the company carried more than 113,000 passengers on its scheduled services, and totally in all operations it flew with more than 88 million passenger kilometers. Presently there are 224 members of staff in the Airkenya Aviation company along with 36 of them are pilots having different nationalities. From these 36 pilots, 6 of them each have flown over 10,000 hours and the total experience of pilots exceeds 160,000 hours.
| Airkenya Aviation boasts a passenger list including the rich and famous personalities. The flights of Airkenya Aviation have been cleared for transporting VIP passengers like the members of the British Royal Family, former United States President Jimmy Carter, H.H. Aga Khan, and senior Cabinet Ministers of many countries. The Airkenya Aviation is also sanctioned by the International Shell organization for transporting their staff. This is an approval that is given only after a strict technical and operational audit.

The scheduled services of Airkenya Aviation are operated under the carried code QP and are found in the list of most airline timetable directories. Airkenya Aviation is a limited liability company. Aircraft insurance, third parties and passengers are placed in the London underwriting market by the brokers of the company, Sedgwick Aviation Limited, London. Every aircraft of the Airkenya Aviation carry a combined third party / passenger liability cover of US$20 million.
