Ariana Afghan Airlines Co. Ltd. is the flag carrier of Afghanistan. The base of this airline is in Kabul. This airlines company operates both domestic and also international services for passenger carriage in Afghanistan. This airlines company is operated completely by the Afghan government. Before this airlines company was banned by EU it used to operate flight service in Frankfurt in Germany. On 27th January of 1955 the Ariana Afghan Airlines Company was established. During the period of 1970s this airlines company was declared as one of the best airlines company in the world. Douglas DC-10s is among the aircrafts this company used to operate during its early years.
| In the year 1989, as the Soviet Union collapsed during the rule of the communist government of president Najibulla and the Taliban claimed and took over Kabul in the year 1996. During the Taliban regime, Afghanistan faced a substantial amount of economic pressure from the world. This sanction had an adverse effect on the economic health of the country during the 90's. During that period of time only a few Boeings built in Ukrain and the Boeing built in Russia. The three Boeing 727s and the Yakovlev Yak-40s were also operational in Afghanistan at that time.

These flights were mainly used for the domestic operation of passenger carriages. In the year 1996, Ariana Afghan Airlines got an operational base from Pakistan that was Karachi.
By the year 1999, this airline flew straight to Dubai in United Arab Emirates and also in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. A limited number of cargo flights continued to fly to the western province of China. In the year 1267, the restrictions already imposed by the UN Security Council Resolution compelled the Ariana Afghan Airlines to hang up their international operation for the time being.
After the Taliban government in Afghanistan was removed, Ariana Afghan Airlines started rebuilding their service in a new way in the year 2001. It took approximately a month to get rid of all the sanctions for the Afghan government. The operation of the Ariana Afghan Airlines was resumed again and as a good will gesture from India, the Indian government lend a few air buses of Air India to Ariana Afghan Airlines. The first passenger flight of Ariana Afghan Airlines was landed in Delhi, at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The cargo division of the Ariana Afghan Airlines operates only one single 727-200C aircraft to different destinations.
