The official name of Armenia is the Republic of Armenia. This country is basically a land locked area in Eurasia. The country of Eurasia is situated between the Caspian Sea and the Black Sea at the southern Caucasus region. The native people in Armenian gave it the name Hayk. During the Middle Ages this name was extended to a longer word Hayastan. It was the mere inclusion of the Iranian suffix -stan or land. This name was actually derived from the word, Hayk, the legendary patriarch in Armenia and also a great-great-grandson of Noah, who defeated the Babylonian king, Bel.
