Lauda Air is one of the popular air carriers based in the European country of Austria. The airline, founded in the year 1979, offers flights to 130 destinations located in 66 countries. The airline is quite popular in the European part of the world. The major hub of the airline is the Vienna International Airport. The airline has a fleet size of 14 and the headquarters of the airline is located in the Austrian city of Vienna. It is the subsidiary airline of the national carrier of Austria, Austrian Airlines. History of Lauda Air
The airline was established in the month of April in 1979. It was the one-time Formula One champion, Niki Lauda, who founded the airline. The airline became fully operational by the year 1985 when it began to offer charter and air taxi services. In the year 1990, Lauda Air obtained the license required to operate international flights. It was at the end of the year 2000 that the airline was taken over by Austrain Airlines. Niki Lauda moved on to launch another airline by the name of Niki. The Austrian Airlines is yet to merge the operations of the Lauda Air with the parent company.
Destinations of Lauda Air
When the airline company obtained the license to operate international flights, it began to offer flight from the city of Vienna to Sydney and Melbourne. The air route also covered the Thai city of Bangkok. Later on flights were introduced from Vienna to Sydney and Melbourne which included Kuala Lumpur as one of the in-between destinations. In due course of time, Lauda Air also began to offer flights to Miami, Munich, Dubai and Cuba. The Austrian Airline retiring the Airbus aircrafts of Lauda Air, many of the long distance flights are no longer operational.

The fleet of the airline includes Airbus and Boeing aircrafts. The fleet of the airline include 2 Airbus A320-200, 1 Boeing 737-600, 2 Boeing 737-700, 6 Boeing 737-800 and 2 Boeing 767-300ER. The airline has also placed an order for a Boeing 737-800. The aircrafts of the airline has been named in honor of some of the popular celebrities. Some of the names of the aircrafts are Freddie Mercury, George Harrison, Gregory Peck, Frank Zappa, Miles Davis, Kurt Cobain, Ray Charles and Frida Kahlo.
