Balkan Bulgarian Airlines

The national air carrier of Bulgaria and one of the leading airliners in the region, Balkan Bulgarian Airlines has a long and illustrious history. Starting off with its services officially way back in 1947, Balkan Bulgarian airlines had old airplanes of the JU 52 and DC 3 variants. The next few decades saw a number of important changes in the ownership pattern as well as the modernization of the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines. With the opening up of the Bulgarian economy and hospitality industry in the late 1990s, Balkan Bulgarian Airlines has come to age and is regarded as one of the major airliners in the region today.

The late 1980s and 1990s saw a number of financial and political troubles affecting the performance of the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines. However, what followed were a complete makeover of the airliner and the introduction of new airplanes, enhanced level of training for the air crew and emphasis on the new methodologies of airline management and promotion. The process has resulted in usage of empty slots for the leading European airports for the Bulgarian airliner.
The leasing of some of the Boeing 737s in the service of Balkan Bulgarian Airlines along with better utilization of available resources has resulted in it gradually becoming one of the leading air carriers. The number of business and leisure travelers to Bulgaria has also increased as a result of better business opportunities in the country. The political situation too gradually got stabilized and the promotion of Bulgaria as a major attraction for tourist spots have made situation more conducive for the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines.

Balkan Bulgaria Airlines today is reckoned as one of the leading airliners in the Eastern Europe. With other major airliners too embarking on an expansion and modernization drive, the Bulgarian national air carrier too has gone on with an ambitious program. It is planning to extend air services and include new major destinations, acquire or lease new aircrafts and enter into code sharing agreement with other major global airliners.

As part of the branding of the airline and presenting a new face of it, Balkan Bulgaria Airlines has been rechristened as Bulgaria Air. The company has come up with innovative marketing plans and strategies and is on an expansion spree. With destinations more than 40 in places like Europe, Asia, Africa and North America, it operates inland and international charter passenger and cargo operations too besides the usual domestic and international air service.
