In the year 2005, Sterling Airways had been bought by the Iceland based investment body the FL Group. Sterling Airways had been sold to Nordic Travel Holding in late 2006. By the end of year 2005, Sterling Airways had a total employee strength of 1600 staffs. The fleet size of Sterling Airways comprises 29 modern aircrafts. The major hubs of Sterling Airways are located in Copenhagen as well as in Stockholm and Oslo.
Sterling Airways started operations in early 1960s when it bought two Douglas DC-6B from the Switzerland based airline company Swissair. The charter flights of Sterling Airways operated between the various Scandinavian and Mediterranean cities. In the year 1993, Sterling Airways got bankrupted and that led into the formation of Sterling European Airlines in the year 1994. Sterling European Airlines stated operating in 1994 with only three aircrafts. Year 2000 was quite significant for the company as it started regular flights to Alicante as well as Malaga.

Sterling Airways started operating in 21 new routes mainly between Scandinavia and parts of southern Europe. During he year 2003 two new aircrafts were added to its existing fleet of six aircrafts. The fleet of Sterling Airways comprises eleven Boeing 737-800, thirteen Boeing 737-700 and six Boeing 737-500 aircrafts. The flights of Sterling Airways are availed by numerous travelers flying between Denmark, France, UK, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Germany, Croatia and many other European nations.
