Olympic Airlines is the flag carrier airline of Greece and headquartered in the historical city of Athens. It operates services to 35 domestic destinations and to 39 destinations worldwide making the total number of destinations to over 74. The main base of Olympic Airlines is Athens International Airport and has a hub at the Thessaloniki International Airport, 'Macedonia'. An airline hub is part of the hub and spoke model wherein it acts like a transit point for flights, which needs to stop over before resuming to the destination. This hub is increasing in popularity in the international map and is now a popularly used as a gateway to Southeast and East Asia, with flights to important cities like Bangkok, Singapore, and Beijing. It is also the largest European gateway airport to the Middle East because of its geographical proximity to the region. Apart from these reasons, Olympic Airlines setup base at the Thessaloniki International Airport because of the continual investment in pioneering technology this airport made. The Airlines has achieved credentials from IATA with the IOSA (IATA Operations Safety Audit) for its safety practices.
| Olympic Airlines currently employs over 8.500 staff, has 41 strong aircraft fleet size and serves over 74 destinations. Olympic Airlines has come a long way since its inception in the year 1957. It was originally formed by the merging of three airlines called T.A.E., G.A.T. and Hellenic Airlines/A.M.E. and flew under the banner name of T.A.E. The name of the airline is not derived from the Olympic Games but its logo does have resemblance to it. It takes its name and symbol after the Twelve Olympians, the principal grouping of gods and goddesses in Greek mythology residing in Mount Olympus.

According to the information recorded in the official Olympic Airways archives, the first logo of Olympic Airlines was a white eagle which resemblance a propeller and had five rings.
Two years into operations and the logo was changed to a new design with the five colored rings. This caused a clash with the Olympic Games logo and so a sixth ring was added to the new logo. The five rings represented the five continents and the sixth ring represented Greece. It is clear that Onassis had a great passion for ancient Greece. Many of his other companies carry the name Olympic such as Olympic Maritime. As per the OA regulations, all male attendants are made to wear a black tie as a tribute to the late Alexander Onassis.
