Air Contractors Ltd |
For a long span of more than three decades Air Contractors Ltd. has been catering to the airfreight requirements of Europe.
It was formed in the year 1972 and was known as Air Bridge Carriers. The basic aim of the Air Bridge Carriers was to freight fresh products and commodities from the Channel Islands to the United Kingdom; Air Bridge Carriers was formed in union with four Argosy freighters. Later on it was used in the logistics of aircraft engines and heavy-weight machinery from the oil fields of North Sea. Air Bridge was catering to express parcel business which was in the nascent stage towards the beginning of the 1980's.
Air Contractors Ltd. evolved from Air Bridge Carriers which had another name change in the year 1992; Hunting Cargo Airlines was the changed version of the former one and all the flight operations were shifted to Ireland in the year 1997. It already had Boeing 727 and Lockheed Electra aircraft in its fleet list but 1997 witnessed the introduction of the first airbus in the fleet structure of Air Contractors Ltd. The Hunting Group sold off the aviation company to two companies namely Compaigne Maritime Belge NV and Safair (Pty) Ltd; the former company from Belgium and the latter one from South Africa formed a consortium and the association of the two companies led to the formation of Air Contractors Ltd. Hence Air Contractors Ltd is the result of several changes from the day of its inception.
