Pulkovo Airlines |
The Pulkovo Airlines was named after the area of its location that is Pulkovo along with the village of Pulkovo and Pulkovo Observatory. The airlines started off with its operations in the year 1932 with the landing of two aircrafts that had taken off from Moscow at the Shosseynaya Airport situated south of Leningrad. It may be said that the Pulkovo Airlines was actually operated by the Pulkovo Aviation Enterprise, which also owned the Pulkovo Airport. The enterprise was an airline based in St Petersburg, Russia. At one point in time, the Pulkovo Airlines was the largest of the Russian airlines. With the merger of the Pulkovo Aviation Enterprise and the government owned Russia State Transport Company, things changed for the better and a new company with the name Rossiya came into existence.
| Along with the airline, the airport too came to be known as Pulkovo in the late 1950s. The airport complex benefited largely from the services of the Pulkovo Airlines. The Pulkavo Airport are graced with two separate terminals, which were so far from each other that sometimes they were considered separate airports. It may be interesting to note that the Pulkovo Airlines used Aeroflot livery until the change was ordered in the year 1997 in order to avoid confusion of any kind. The Pulkovo Airlines joined the IATA in June 2000.
