Air Wales

Air Wales was one of the popular airlines of United Kingdom. The hub of Air Wales is Cardiff International Airport, which is situated in Wales. It is the prime airport of this region of Wales. This airport is also referred as Rhoose Airport, named after a village situated in close proximity to the airport. It is the only airport, which provide services to scheduled international flights. There are scheduled regional services all around UK, Belgium, Ireland and France. This airline, however, ceased its operations in the year 2006, on 23rd April. The headquarters of Air Wales was at Cardiff in wales and the key person behind this airline was Roy Thomas, who was the chairman of this company. This airline once served 13 destinations, the prime cities cities being Cork, Swansea and Plymouth.
Air Wales was established in the year 1997 on the month of January, and Roy Thomas was the financier of the company. It started operation in the year 2000 with its initial base at Pembrey Airport, which was situated at Wales. It operated with only 2 aeroplanes. Slowly and gradually, its strength expanded to 120 employees, among them 20 persons were engineers, 45 flight deck staffs and 20 people were appinted for services associated with cabin crew.

In the year 2004, Air Wales stopped its flights to Swansea and concentrated only on routes from Cardiff International Airport. In 2006, it also stopped routes to Plymouth. During this time, the company's focus was on more popular routes and they tried to expand routes and made an effort to include more international destinations.

Later that year, in the month of April, Air Wales ceased all its passenger routes and started focusing on freight and cargo operations. However, this was just an eyewash as the staffs found out that aircrafts were returned to the lease givers, which was enough to convey the message that the airline would stop all its operations. It was also heard that it is trying to operate in collaboration, with the rivals in business but it did not happen and the company was closed down. Very soon, 2 rival companies started its flight operations to the popular routes from the Cardiff Airport.

The flights of Air Wales mainly served destinations such as, Paris, Brussels, Belfast City, Aberdeen, Dublin, Cork, Newcastle and Jersey. There were plans to start flights to Beauvais in Paris and also in Rennes but it did not happen.
