Britannia Airways

Britannia Airways was the largest of the chartered airlines in the UK, which has come to be known as Thomsonfly, with the rebranding of Britannia Airways, into this name, in the year 2005. The bases or hubs of Britannia Airways are London Gatwick, Birmingham, London Luton, Newcastle and Manchester. The secondary hubs of Britannia Airways are Newcastle and Birmingham and the other three are the prime ones, which hint at the fact that there are more flights from these destinations. The fleet size is 47, so, at one go, 47 persons can travel. TUI is the parent company of this airline. Headquarters of Britannia Airways is at Luton in London.

Britannia Airways was established in the year 1961 on 1st of December. The operations started on the 5th of May in the year 1962, in the name of Euravia. The name, Britannia Airways, was adopted in the year 1964 on the month of August, in order to coincide the re equipping with the airliner of Bristol Brittania turbo. In the year 1965, Britannia Airways became an integral part of the company Thomson, which was itself a part of Thomson Organization, the Canadian International organization.

Britannia Airways was the first airline of Europe, to operate with Boeing 767 flight. Thomson Travel Group, the parent company of Britannia Airways, purchased Horizon Travel along with the airline Orion Airways, which was integrated into the company. In the year 1997, a whole subsidiary was formed by Britannia Airways with the name, Brittania GmbH, with its base in Germany, and airports in Germany along with Austria and Switzerland. Short flights were introduced for German tour operators for the passengers to small distances. It could not flourish much and the operations were stopped in 2001, March.

In 1998, Thomson Travel Group acquired Fritidsresor Group, the Scandinavian holiday operation, along with the Blue Scandinavia, the airline, which has been renamed as Brittania Nordic. In the year 2000, both Britannia Airways and Thomson Travel Group have been acquired by TUI Group, based in Germany.

Some of the popular international scheduled destinations of Britannia Airways, or Thomsonfly are Barbados, Luxor, Paphos, Sydney, St Lucia, Las Palmas, Faro, Funchal, Accara, Geneva, Goa and some other destinations. The fleets used by Britannia Airways are different Boeing flights.
