The initial years of the Monarch Airlines can be traced back in the year 1967. During that year Bill Hodgson and Don Peacock receiving the financial support from the Swiss Albek and Mantegazza families acted as a subsidiary of Globus Gateway Holdings. The commercial branch of the Monarch Airline operations started in the 1968 with a charter flight from Luton to Madrid using a Bristol Britannia 175 turboprop. The initial fleet of the airline comprised of two Bristol Britannias. In the second year operations of the Monarch Airlines, six Britannias of the company carried 250,000 passengers within the period of 1 year for the first time.
It was in the year of 1972 that the airline firm carried about more than 500,000 passengers in one year for the first time in the history of the airline. The year 2007 was significant for the airline as it was voted Leisure Airline of the Year at the annual Travel Trade Gazette Awards and this happened for the second time that accolades was won by the airline.
