Air Tango

Air Canada launched a discount airlines called Air Tango, or, Air Canada Tango in the year 2001. The main mission of Air Canada in establishing this potential airlines service was to present an affordable traveling package having low flight costs in order to increase the customer traffic for Air Canada at the ticket selling counters of the terminals.

Another measure was to introduce no-frills service in some of the routes of Air Canada Tango that can surely reduce the operating costs increasing the number of passengers. A no-frills service is such a subsidized airlines service that excludes certain non essentialities like media entertainment, comprehensive guide coverage of the whole course of flight and free hard drinks in the cabin.

Air Tango is based in Toronto, the capital city of the state of Ontario and also the capital of the Republic of Canada. About Air Tango, the name coined by the Air Canada, it can be said that Tango is the short form of Tan and Go indicating the southern warmer destinations for which they schedule flights in the winter time. From the early days the Air Tango being the brainchild of Air Canada found a very potential market in organizing affordable flights to the summer destinations all throughout the winter.
The flights of Air Tango, which is one of the most popular discount airlines included scheduled passenger flights along the main long distance Canadian routes connecting cities like Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. Apart from these scheduled long distance passenger routes the Air Tango also gives flights to the holiday destinations in USA. These major holiday destinations are Fort Lauderdale, Tampa, Miami, Tallahassee, New Orleans, Austin, Wichita, Columbia, Seattle, Kansas City, Lincoln, Dallas, etc.

The facilities with Air Tango are as a matter of fact quite in agreement with the passenger's choice. Some common amenities enjoyed by the passengers when flying with Air Tango are: 1) comfortable and spacious cabin, 2) prompt air hostess service, 3) utmost cooperation of the parsers and the air crew, 4) wholesome lunch and supper in the long distance flights, 5) soft drinks and beverages if necessary, 6) radio and television service, 7) magazines, newspapers and daily periodicals.

Like Air Tango another discount airline called Zip was launched by Air Canada that operated as a totally different airline service with it's own staff and administrative body. Both Air Tango and Zip were partly dissolved in the year 2004 in order to counter issues with increasing fuel surcharges for economy flights. However, the flights offered by Air Tango were all in high demand among the people due to the affordable price and satisfactory services. The fleet used by Air Tango included the following models:
  • Airbus A320-211 with a passenger capacity of 140
  • Boeing 737-217 with a passenger capacity of 118
  • Boeing 737-275 with a passenger capacity of 118
