Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines is one of the largest airlines carrier in the West Coast of United States, serving three countries of Unites States, Mexico and Canada. The airlines has grown phenomenally in the past 75 years, growing from a small regional company to a large airlines carrier. Carrying more than 17 million people each year, the company has its roots in 1932, when Mac McGee began to fly the three-seater charter aircraft between Anchorage and Bristol Bay in Alaska. Since then the company has grown through several mergers and acquisitions, with many long distance flights to its kitty now. Some of these mergers include with Star Air Service in 1934, with Alaska Coastal-Ellis and Cordova airlines in the later half of 1960s, and finally in 1987, with Horizon Air and Jet America. Today, it serves three countries and 92 city destinations.
It was in the 1970s that the airline company changes its focus area, with the prime focus being on customer satisfaction and customer service. By the 1980s, the list of scheduled destinations also included Russia and Mexico. It was in 2001 that Washington D.C became an important destination for Alaska Airlines, with long haul flights from the city to Seattle and to Los Angeles. Some of the other long haul flights offered by Alaska Airlines include flights between Seattle and Orlando, Boston, Miami, Newark, Hawaii, Honolulu, Lihue and Kauai, among others.

There have been four people behind the evolution of Alaska Airlines, namely, Mac McGee, Shell Simmons, Bob Ellis and "Mudhole" Smith.

Alaska Airlines has its base Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in Sea-Tac. The main airport centers of the airlines company are Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Portland International Airport and Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, while the Los Angeles International Airport and San Francisco International Airport. Some of the common aircrafts used by the Airlines are Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-400, Boeing 737-700, Boeing MD-80, Bombardier Q400, Bombardier CRJ -700 and Boeing 737-400 Combi (73Q), among others. One of the main objectives of the airlines company has been customer satisfaction. There are range of services such as complimentary meals and snacks, in flight entertainment such as movies, music and magazines, among others. The airlines also offers the Mileage Plan, set of benefits accorded in the frequent flyer program. The Airlines plans to launch the in-flight broadband internet services from the year 2008. There are also a wide range of comforts available at the airport lounge of Alaska Airlines, called the Board Room. Some of these Board Room locations are Los Angeles, Anchorage, Seattle, San Francisco, Portland and Vancouver.
