| The Arctic Circle Air began in 1973 with the pioneering efforts of the pilot Douglas Butler, who began the first charter service between Fairbanks and Fort Yukon. During this time, the company had only two aircraft models of C206 and C170. It was in 1979 that the route became scheduled. Till the 1980s, there was continuous expansion and reorganization of the company, till in 1990 a group from Anchorage took over the operations and management of the company. The Dillingham base was opened in 1997, which began to offer carrier services to both the passengers and for the cargo.

It served the needs of eight communities. In 2003, with the additions of two King Airs and Sherpa, there was expansion of the company into the freight and mail markets. Some of the common aircraft models used by Arctic Circle Air are Sherpa, C402, Skyvan, Caravan, King Air and C207.
Some of the popular Dillingham destinations include Koliganek, Ekwok, Stuyahok, Twin Hills, Toglak Village and Manokotak. The Bethel destinations include communities such as Hooper Bay, Marshall, Tununok, Chevak, Newtok, Kipnuk, Goodnews Bay and Platinum, among others. The Fairbanks destinations include communities such as Rampart, Minto, Arctic Village, Hughes, Katlag and Galena, among others. The destinations from Anchorage airport include King Salmon, Cordova, Port Helden and Sand Point. Arctic Circle Air also offers charter services from the different bases of the airlines, thus offering a certain flexibility to your transportation needs, even to the remotest of villages in Alaska.
