World Airways is an American airline that was founded in 1948. Since then the airline has been providing passengers with service and facilities along with speed and many more destinations to cover. The head quarters if the World Airways is in Peachtree City in the state of Georgia. There are many theories regarding the founder of the World Airways. Some believe it is Benjamin Pepper while according to some it is Edward Daly. Benjamin Pepper was the first person to introduce World Airways with the help of the Pan American World Airways Boeing 314 aircrafts. This airline gained popularity and increased its business with Edward Daly buying the airline in the 1950s and then getting newer fleets so that operations are extended. Since it is one of the oldest airlines, it received many governmental contracts. The World Airways went on to increase its fleet by discarding olds aircraft models and then acquiring newer models of aircrafts. The initial fleet of World Airways consisted of DC-6 and Lockheed Constellations.
| In the 1960s, the fleet consisted of Boeing 707 and the Boeing 727. Later it was the Douglas DC-8. During the Vietnam War the airways served many important links from the war zone to the base camps providing supplies to the soldiers or handling the rescue operations. During this time the airline went through losses but it later bounced back to business under the guidance of the founder World. The military business too helped in recovering the losses to some extent. Some of the aircrafts of the World Airways are used only as freighters and some as passenger carriers.

The World Airways flights are non scheduled flights that carry passengers who need the long haul widebody aircrafts that can be used for the cargoes as well.
Since it is a non scheduled carrier, there are more military businesses as it connects many base camps with the American bases. There are many subsidiaries of the World Airways and the subsidiaries are mainly used for cargo purposes.
The subsidiaries of World Airways are Etihad Airways, Finnair, Air Canada and the Ethiopian Airlines along with Lufthansa Cargo. In the year 2006, World Airways was merged with North American Airlines. With the merging, there has been increase in many destinations in the South America and Africa. The fleet of World Airways consists of 14 McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and 3 McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30. The World Airlines functioned as cargo airlines after the aircrafts were on wet lease.
