Airnorth

Airnorth Airlines is a regional airline service that is based in Darwin, Australia, Oceania. In the year 1977, Airnorth was established by Joseph Sparling and Vuntut Development, an arm of the Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation. The airlines operate both scheduled and charter services in Queensland, Northern Territory, and Western Australia, with additional extension to Indonesia and East Timor. The main base of Airnorth Airlines is at Maningrida Airport. The parent company of this airline is Capiteq Limited. On July 4, 1978, Airnorth started its operations. Airnorth operated only charter airlines planntil in the year 1981 scheduled services were introduced. Previously, Airnorth was known as Air North International. In October 2003, the assets of Airlines of South Australia were acquired by Airnorth, intending to gradually merge the two companies and operating under the air operator certificate Airnorth. The fleet size of Airnorth is 12 and it travels to 9 destinations.

In March 2004, the assets of Emu Airways were acquired by Airnorth, but in the year 2005 Airnorth sold off the assets of both ASA and Emu. Presently, Airnorth airline is owned by three companies: Skyport Group (55%), QTEC (31%) and John Gamble (14%). In the year 2005, the operations of both Emu Airways and ASA stopped. Airnorth forms a part of a major new coalition consisting of regional services in Australia, RegionalLink Airlines that were put together by the Capiteq Limited, a Darwin based aviation services company. This became the first airline franchise operation in Australia. All the participating airlines under this company will keep on trading in their local markets in their own names; their logos will appear on the fuselages of the aircraft within the Airnorth group. In May 2004, Airnorth went into a contract with the Indonesian operator Merpati Nusantara Airlines for offering extended services between Darwin and Kupang in West Timor by utilizing Embraer Brasilia aircraft.

Services of Airnorth

Airnorth operates three types of services: domestic scheduled services, International scheduled destinations, and Domestic charter destinations. In the category of domestic scheduled services, Airnorth flies to the following destinations: Darwin, Broome, Gove, Kununurra, Groote Eylandt, Milingimbi, Maningrida, Elcho Island, and McArthur River mine. Airnorth's International scheduled destinations are: Dili in East Timor, and Kupang in Indonesia. Domestic charter destinations of Airnorth include: Tiwi Islands, Argyle diamond mine, Truscott, and Horn Island.

The fleet of Airnorth features: 1 Embraer EMB 110P2 Bandeirante, 1 Embraer EMB 110P1 Bandeirante, 5 Embraer EMB 120 Brasilia, 3 Fairchild Metro 23, and 1 Embraer 170 aircraft.
