The airlines which started functioning from 16th May 1968 was earlier named as Air Micronesia from where the callsign and the nickname Air Mike emerged. Initially the airlines had a Douglas DC -6 and a Boeing 727-100 which possessed a teflon coating in order to enable it to function properly in the coral runway. The first service of Continental Micronesia started with a journey from Guam to Japan. In the following years Continental underwent a change in the roles. By 1990, the name Air Mike was changed to Continental Air Micronesia which was agained renamed as Continental Micronesia.
At present Continental Micronesia is the second only after Northwest Airlines to serve two of the states of the United States. You can reach any of the 50 destinations of United States directly from Guam. As per records in January 2008, there are 1500 employees of Continental Micronesia.
