Samoa

Formally known as the Independent State of Samoa, the country of Samoa controls the western portion of the archipelago of Samoan Islands in the South Pacific region. The main means of moving to the different islands of Samoa are the highways, harbors and ports whereas the best transport facilities offered in Samoa for traveling to the neighboring nations within and outside the archipelago are provided by the airports in this country, the total number of these airports being three in Samoa. Two of the airports in this country have paved runways whereas the remaining one has unpaved runways. The airports in Samoa comprise Maota Airport, Asau Airport and Faleolo International Airport. Maota Airport is the most important domestic airport in Samoa that serves flights operated to and from Upolu Island and Savai'i Island. The Maota Airport is situated within 10 minutes of Salelologa and is recently renovated airport that is serving Samoa since the 1990s. This airport contains a short runway for controlling the operation of Twin Otters and different other small planes that carry passengers. But the terminal at the airport features all the latest facilities like lounge for arrival and departure, some stores and cafes, a cyber café, an ATM and also the services offered by ANZ and NBS banks for day flights. The Polynesian Airlines operates its flights between Maota Airport and Pago Pago and Faleolo. An inter-island plane serves this airport once in a week and carries passengers to and from Pago Pago.

Asau Airport is a peaceful and small airfield situated in the deep woods of Savai'i in close proximity to the Asau town in Savai'i Island. This airport serves the air passengers daily for twelve hours. This airport serves the flights that arrive at and depart from Faleolo and Maota. The Asau Airport features only one runway that has got rough surfaces and can provide space for the Twin Otter aircrafts as it is a small airport and the tarmac cannot accommodate the landing and take off of bigger and weightier planes. The Faleolo International Airport is sited 40 kilometers in the west of the capital of Samoa, Apoa. The airlines that serve the Faleolo International Airport comprise Air Pacific, Air New Zealand, Virgin Blue and Polynesian Airlines.
