Tonga or the Kingdom of Tonga is the single archipelago in the beautiful Pacific Ocean, on which any colony was never properly formed. Mata'aho Airport, serving the flights operated by Airlines Tonga, is based at Niuafo'ou. The Vava'u International Airport is placed at Vava' in Tonga and is linked to destinations like Nuku'Alofa, Niuatoputapu and Ha'apai by the Air Fiji and Peau Vava'u flights. Fua'amotu International Airport, another international airport of Tonga is located on the southern part of the Tongatapu island, which is sited within 35 kilometers of Nuku'alofa, the capital city of the archipelago. This airport was primarily established as a wartime airbase in 1940 and was later extended during the later half of the 1970s for allowing the jet planes to make use of runways.
