Chad has been provided the cognomen 'Dead heart of Africa'. Though the general scenario of Chad's transportation facilities is not well developed; however, the air transportation is comparatively better. Advent of development in the country has brought in growth in the transportation facilities as well, especially air. In total, there are six paved airports and several unpaved airports present in Chad. The names which come in the paved airport's list are N'Djamena, Moundou, Mao, Faya Largeau, Bol, and Abeche. These paved airports have the longest runways, in comparison to the unpaved ones. The N'Djamena International Airport is the principle airport of the entire country and serves the maximum amount of air passenger. It is a public airport which is used for military purposes as well. Necessary equipments and requirements for both civilians and militaries are based on either sides of the same runway. As per the past backdrop of this airport of Chad, it became a home to French military base since 1986. This happened with the commencement of the Operation Epevier. Presently, Epevier comprises of Puma helicopters, Mirage F-1 fighters and other aircrafts. This French base is shared by Chad Air Force as well.
In terms of civilian services, the airlines departing from N'Djamena International Airport are primarily Nasair, Ethiopian Airlines, Air France, Afriqiyah Airways, Cameroon Airlines, Sudan Airways and Toumai Air Chad. Some more airlines would be operating from this airport of Chad in the coming years. Domestic as well as international flights depart and arrive at this airport. This airport has received all the important for being situated in the capital city of Chad. With the development happening in N'Djamena, the number of air passengers comprising mainly tourists and business travelers, have increased. All sorts of basic amenities of the air passengers are available in this international airport of Chad.

Boeing 737, Fokker F-28 and Douglas DC-9 are the main aircrafts operating from the N'Djamena International Airport of Chad. Even the former airline, which is basically a charter cargo airline, has its base at the N'Djamena International Airport.
