The Sir Grantley Adams International Airport is located in Seawell, Christ Church on Barbados island. Earlier it was known as Seawell Airport and was later on in 1976 renamed in honor of the first Prime minister of Barbados, Sir Grantley Herbert Adams. The airport essentially has one runway.

The Grantley Adams Airport is one of the popular airports in Barbados and has direct flights to destinations in Canada, United States, South America, Central America, Africa and Europe. The airport also operates as a major gateway for Eastern Caribbean. The Grantley Adams Airport is the econd hub for Leeward Islands Air Transport (LIAT).

Airports in Barbados : The Sir Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) falls 13 km from the center of the national capital Bridgetown. The official name for the area is Seawell.

The airport has easy access to the highway 7 / ABC highway leading to the capital and other places to the north and west coast of Barbados island. This airport which is well known among the airports in Barbados sometime back had two-phase US$100 million upgradation and expansion to add a new arrivals hall adjacent to the present arrivals / departures terminals. The construction went on despite the airport having to stay open up to 16 hours a day. It is expected to meet the need of Barbados till 2015. The phase III construction project yet to be started envisages changes to the aircraft parking configuration.

The Sir Grantley Adams International Airport handles large aircrafts including Boeing 747s. In the airport, British Airways' Concorde aircraft would make scheduled flights and it was also a repair base for the Concordes. The Concorde usually arrived during the busy UK-Barbados winter season and the one way trip took less than four hours.
