During the period of early Cold War, this airport was a Soviet Anti-Air Defense base. The destinations served by the airBaltic include Copenhagen, Hamburg, Riga. The Ventspils International Airport in Latvia is the newest inclusion in the list of Latvian Airports. Amongst the three notable airports in Latvia, the Ventspils International Airport is one. In the year 1975, the Ventspils International Airport was established. Additional to commercial traffic, various state departments used the airport for different reasons. Previuosly, there were state border control flights, forest patrols, flights for oil pipeline control, fishing inspection flights, traffic control, and others.

The Daugavpils International Airport is situated in the village of Lociki, Daugavpils district, Latgale region, Latvia. The airport's runway, technical infrastructure, and buildings are the remnants of the former soviet military air base. But presently, the airport's base is completely abandoned. Initially the airport served as the home to 372 APIB flying MiG-27 and MiG-23 aircrafts.
