There are a number of airports in Israel for connecting several cities of the world to the country through the Israel flights. The Ovda International Airport is one of the most used airports in Israel as it handles international air traffic. The airport happens to be the second largest in the country. Israel accounts for a great number of flights amongst the countries of the Middle East. The Ovda International Airport is situated in the southern part of the country that is located at a distance of 60 km from Eilat. The Ovda International Airport was initially started as a military airport in the year 1980. Presently, the airport is operating commercial flights. It is expected that the civilian operations of this airport will cease by the year 2010 when the new international airport of Eilat becomes operational.
The Ben Gurion International Airport is amongst the other Israel airports. The Israel Airports Authority operates the airport. The historic name of the airport is Lydda Airport and is also called as Natbag sometimes. This is the biggest as well as the busiest airport in Israel. From 1948 to1973, the airport was called as Lod Airport. The airport also serves as the hub of El Al Israel Airlines, Arkia Israel Airlines, Israir Airlines and Sun D'Or. The Be'er Sheva (Teyman) Airport is next in the list of airports in Israel. The Government of Israel operates the airport and serves Beersheba. The Teyman Airport is mainly used for flight trainings and organizing private aviation activity. There is also a SkyKef skydiving club and a gliding club in the airport.

The Eilat Airport operates domestic flights to the cities of Tel Aviv and Haifa. The airport has only a limited number of international flights. The Haifa Airport is operated by the Israel Airports Authority and is located close to the Kishon Port and also near to the Israel Shipyards. The Herzliya Airport is for teaching flying and for conducting private aviation activity. The Atarot Airport operated by the Israel Defense Forces is located in Jerusalem and is officially known as the Jerusalem International Airport.

Megiddo Airport operated by the Jezreel Valley Regional Council serves Afula and operates agricultural and private flights. The Kiryat Shmona Airport is located at a distance of 2 from Kiryat Shmona. The Sde Dov Airport which is operated by the Israel Airports Authority is also known as the Dov Hoz Airport.
